Gambling Addict Stole £62,000.00 to Play Online Bingo

A woman from Yorkshire has stolen £62,000 from the petrol station where she worked as a manageress to pay for her addiction to online gambling. 42 year-old Sandra Preston has now been sent to prison for a six month sentence after she admitted stealing the money.

Hull Crown Court was told how she fraudulently used the PayPoint system to finance her gambling habit between August and October of last year at the Total Garage in Driffield.

Her stealing came to light when her employer decided to sell the petrol station. The accounts of the business were checked when the owner showed them to a possible buyer.

Sandra had started to gamble after she split up with her husband and moved in with a friend whose mother introduced her to online bingo. Over time she became hooked gambling thousands of pounds and her problem gambling led her to steal from her employer. This has now led to six months in prison.

Online bingo and gambling in general should be fun but if you know someone who’s gambling is out of control you should get in touch with GamCare who help people with gambling problems. Their website is www.gamcare.org.uk and they offer a discussion forum, a helpline and other services to help gambling addicts.
